7 DAYS IN YOUR DIARY WITH ASUU

7 days make one week but it doesn't have to be Monday to Sunday.

Maybe when everyday feels the same, a week can be any period of 7 days; Monday, Monday, Monday, Tuesday, What'sToday, Friday, Friday again.

Ever since the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria went on strike and I returned home from school, I have almost lost myself in an endless loop of boredom, so I decided to log remarkable activities of my life into days.

I can't tell what happened on Monday, cause it felt like Tuesday but at the time I made this post it was almost a Wednesday.

DAY 1

Mom and I are having a conversation and I make a remark en passΓ© about not being sure if I wanted to get married. She laughs and hopes it's just one of my random jokes. I hope so too.

DAY 2

You know how some stories touch you so deeply, you're looking for a friend who would read it too. Just so both of you could spend hours talking about the book and the characters you love most❤️

I've been reading a lot of novels lately.

I must say, all of Abubakar Adam Ibrahim's books has the read and tell effectπŸ˜₯

DAY 3

Dad came around today. I went on an impromptu tour round few streets in Uyo with him. We talked while we walked.

Oh how he held my right hand while we walked along plaza, like I was some toddler.

It's been a while I felt that way. So I really didn't mind❤️

DAY 4

Having to argue with my mom about the proper use of a word or its pronunciation.

Well, mom was once a diction teacher, so she's very quick to pull out the " I'm a diction teacher..." card πŸ˜‚

And I'm like, "well, you're the diction teacher but I'm the writer, and I'm saying this word is used this way..."

In the end, Google is always the last resort.

DAY 5

"Abdul, you gave me something I thought only existed in favourite movies. And all the things I know about you that your parents don't. I know..."

She paused to stop herself from crying.

"I know you smell everything that comes into your hand— food, cloths, books, you sniff them. I know you do it out of habit. I know sometimes you do it without thinking. Meeting you all those days, felt like a love song on repeat..."

[An excerpt from a short story I've been trying to work on but it just doesn't seem to flow as it should]

DAY 5 again? Maybe...

My younger sister had travelled months ago. Today I visit Facebook and I'm seeing her studio pictures, ear and dearπŸ˜…

Afraid that I have almost forgotten my sister's birthday, again. Then I remember we're in July and her birthday is August. Pheew...

I realized it's perfectly normal to snap a studio picture simply for the love of pictures πŸ˜…And my sister loves pictures.

DAY 6

So I've got this beautiful friend that takes amazing pictures. I thought to share one here ❤️

DAY 7

Last year I compiled my short stories, Too Much Pepper, No salt.

I thought to submit it to a publishing firm, but I never did.

Five months  later, today— I wake up with regret, I know I should have submitted the story.

7 DAYS MAKE ONE WEAK WEEK

I might not entirely remember the order of all the events I mentioned above but  they all happened. Kinda reminds me of a quote, "...every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end, but sometimes it's not being told in that order."

We've been hoping for a date when the strike will be called off. I understand a lot has happened, I also know it's possible to be so occupied with waiting, so much you forget how to note the remarkable things happening around you and in your life.

You're learning a skill, you're working, you've made more money?

Mention a remarkable event that has happened so far, with the following hashtags #7DaysInMyDairyWithAsuu #Asuustrike #iTellstories.

Check the comments to read people's experiences.

  1. Reading this is soo amazing! FIRST HAND TIP, I think I knew about all this before you did.
Plus, I'm wondering when I get to feature on your blog.
    Man, be fair na😭

BTW, Barnabas, looks like we'd have to contend for this pun king title.

A subtle reminder that TMPNS regrets doesn't stay on your mind alone. It's also on the mind of your team. We wanted it to work so badly!

All in all, it's a beautiful read. I'm also cooking something about us and Huwa and Korty and more on a blogpost too πŸ˜…
