I said I'm going to study electrical engineering in school, they said, "...you're mad"
Good day Emmanuel.
Alright so basically for me, this is also going to be my chance to know you better.
For starters, I know you're currently studying computer science in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. And there are several other things you're known for😁 I don't want to give spoilers so I'll let you do the honours.
1. Tell us about yourself, what you do.
I am Emmanuel Sunday, and errm... I'm a software engineer. I write softwares, I build applications. I make computers do things, crazy things. Yeah...
I have always wondered how computers worked and so when I finally got it to do something, when I started learning how to build websites... I felt powerful, kind of.I felt like there was this power that came on me, because I could do something and then something would happen somewhere. That's pretty much like the first feeling, the initial feeling I had when I started writing codes and this was an engineering thing and since then, it has been like that even though it gets really stressful at times. That's not a gist for today, so... Lol.
2. I don't know how it is for a lot of people but at fifteen I wanted to be a doctor. If someone had told me that I would write my first peom at eighteen and that would go ahead to begin a new phase of my life that would bring me here. Honestly, I wouldn't have believed. Lol
So I'd like to know, was it that way for you? Or you'd always known that you'll grow up to be a tech guy.
Errm... It wasn't always like this for me, and... I had a pretty weird/rough childhood, so....
Well, at first I was going to be a doctor.
I think we have that in common. Lol
Actually for the longest period, I've always wanted to be a doctor and I think that was imposed by my parents and everybody around me.
Then at some point, a certain place we packed into in Aba, ermm... It was kind of a rough neighborhood and we use to pick things and make things in our free time. We use to get lamps, electric lamps that had spoilt and then we would wire our houses or our rooms, buy batteries and stuffs like that. And that was what got my attention, so much so, I wanted to study electrical engineering in school and a lot of people said, "you're mad and all of that..." 😅 because it was completely unrelated with what I wanted to study at first.
Ermm. Yeah!
3. Hehehe... wow! So Emmanuel, I know you love God, could you mention at least one thing that your relationship with God has shaped about who you are today.
Well, what do I pick right now... Okay? I've always had big dreams. I still do.
From a very young age I've always had big dreams but then, there was this time in my life where I wasn't seeing anything coming in. I had no plan, nothing!
But then, there was this burden that I had to do something in church and I just said one small tiny tiny prayer like that😂
I said, "Lord, I want this, so I can do this..." and He just gave it to me.
And I think that particular point, that singular experience changed a lot of things about me, my mindset and how I went about some things. Yeah. That experience really really changed so much for me.
4. Now, there's this general conception that tech guys are boring.I know for certain you are not...
Hahaha 😂 you don't know oh...
4.1. Okay... 😂 but if someone met you and asked you to crack a random joke, which joke would you say? Or do you know any riddle?
Errm... Nah. 😂 I don't work like that. I don't have jokes in my head. I rather kind of... joke in the moment.
I think I'm fun, yes! Actually I'm funny. Lol
And I make jokes, but I don't cram jokes😂
And then riddles... Errmm. I have a bunch of them but nothing comes to mind now.
5. I know people with your kind of work barely have time to socialize, are there times a certain relationship with someone had suffered because of an inability to get off work and say hi or place a call.
Watch highlights of Emmanuel's replies
Hahahaha😂 yeah. And it's not really about the work. Like I'm slowly drifting from the need to call anybody or to say hi to anybody. Erm... Because of the work still.
I've had plenty issues with many people because of that, so... It's a common problem and I'm finding ways to deal with it, hopefully...
6. Who's your favourite family member?
Ahhh.... I'd say my mom. Yep! My siblings give me tough time. So it's my mom. 😂
7. Any last words, to everyone out there.
I've said a lot of things, so I'll stick with the John Cena phrase, "Never give up!" Yep. Bye bye😂 Thank you...
Thank you too Emmanuel 😂 I've had such a swell time with you. It was really an honour to have you here on iTell stories and everything beautiful ❤️
